Doug Liman's crime comedy unfolds from three (or perhaps four) different perspectives. The plot centres on a cash-strapped supermarket cashier who agrees to supply ecstasy to two men who are not what they seem, while her English colleague who normally deals the drugs is on a wild trip to Las Vegas. John August's twisty screenplay, which jumps back and forth in time, was clearly influenced by Pulp Fiction, like so many films of the period. I liked Liman's film better when it came out, but with the passage of time it now feels too derivative and surprisingly dull. The characters are forgettable, the Las Vegas section is largely irrelevant, and I see no added value in telling the story out of chronological order.
