An inexperienced Navy lawyer is tasked with defending two Marines accused of murdering a fellow Marine at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base. He finds a web of lies and coverup that seems to go to the top of the command chain. Rob Reiner's long and compelling court(-martial) drama is based on a 1989 play by Aaron Sorkin, who wrote the screenplay. Tom Cruise is solid in the lead and Jack Nicholson gives a brief but memorable supporting performance as the Base Commander, while Demi Moore’s character seems to exist only to add female presence and make mistakes. Sorkin's dialogue is strong, as expected.
