John McClane travels to Moscow after learning that his estranged son, Jack, has been arrested. He soon discovers that Jack is actually an undercover CIA agent tasked with protecting a whistleblower who possesses compromising intel. I thought Live Free or Die Hard was mostly useless, but the fifth installment in the Die Hard series doesn't even try anymore. Although the film has no plot to speak of, I struggled to follow whose side the whistleblower or his daughter were on at any given moment. The banter between John and Jack is lame, and the action is fast-paced but mostly consists of CGI-assisted destruction. John McClane is once again indestructible: during a single car chase, he rolls over two vehicles without wearing a seatbelt, yet walks away without a scratch.
