Guy, who spends his free time as a street musician in Dublin, meets a young Czech immigrant who shares his passion for music. They spend several days writing, rehearsing and recording songs, and begin to develop feelings for each other. John Carney's short romantically flavoured musical drama presents two likeable protagonists who must come to terms with unresolved relationships and decide what they truly want from life. Refreshingly, the characters do not end up quite where you'd expect. John Carney's screenplay is skeletal; instead his film relies heavily on the songs written by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová to convey emotions. "Falling Slowly" won an Academy Award for best original song.
