Detective Takabe investigates a series of gruesome murders in Tokyo in which random ordinary people kill without clear motive. The clues point to a mysterious, amnesiac drifter who seems to unlock violent impulses in others. I could imagine that Kiyoshi Kurosawa's much-loved psychological drama was a big influence on Longlegs. The premise certainly has potential, but I found it plays out as a rather dull procedural, and it’s apparent from the outset that the mystery will resolve without any real sense of closure.
