During the Blitz in London, many children were evacuated to the countryside. Nine-year-old George jumps from the train and decides to find his way back home, while his mother frantically searches for him across the city. Steve McQueen directed and wrote this moving wartime drama, which includes some visually impressive set pieces amidst the bombed cityscapes. Elliott Heffernan gives a terrific debut performance as mixed-race George, who encounters humanity at its best and worst on his journey. Hans Zimmer is behind the powerful but unusual score.
