In 1953, Larry Lapinsky, a 22-year-old aspiring actor, moves to bohemian Greenwich Village, where he takes theater classes, auditions for parts, works odd jobs, and befriends a group of creative misfits. Paul Mazursky's semi-autobiographical coming-of-age dramedy is enjoyable but not essential viewing. Larry's romantic entanglements and clashes with his overprotective mother are compelling, but at times the film meanders with too much waffling and goofing around.
