Happy Gilmore is a failed hockey player whose powerful shot and devil-may-care attitude turn him into an overnight golf sensation. To save his grandmother's house, Happy joins the pro circuit, where he must face off against the tour's arrogant favourite, Shooter McGavin. This well-liked Adam Sandler comedy is funny and sympathetic, especially in the first half, but also formulaic and predictable. Sandler plays the same man child with anger issues he always does, but this time his character is likeable rather than annoying.
