Oliver Tate is an awkward 15-year-old boy who lives in Swansea, Wales sometime in the recent past. While Oliver engages in a relationship with his erratic classmate Jordana, he suspects that his parents may be breaking up. Richard Ayoade's directorial debut is a Wes Andersonesque coming-of-age drama comedy, which feels overly familiar. It tells a heavily narrated story (adapted from Joe Dunthorne's 2008 novel) where quirksome and irksome go hand in hand, and it features dry humour, deadpan performances, and characters you only see in indie movies. The soundtrack features six original songs by Alex Turner, the singer of Arctic Monkeys.
