Following his unrequited love affair, a writer returns to Hong Kong and becomes entangled with several women, while he writes about a mysterious train that takes passengers to 2046. Wong Kar-wai's romantic drama is a sequel of sorts to Days of Being Wild (1990) and In the Mood for Love (2000). Like the latter film, this one looks and sounds absolutely terrific, but the story and the characters are, if possible, even more detached and impenetrable.
