Martin Scorsese and writer Nicolas Pileggi return to the world of real-life gangsters in this (partly fictionalised) story of a mobster who runs a casino in Las Vegas. The film is extremely violent and often derivative of GoodFellas, but it’s wonderfully constructed and beautifully filmed, technically one of Scorsese’s best. The crime story plays out like a semi-documentary, and the never-ending narration gets a bit tiresome.
