A disillusioned veteran catcher joins the Durham Bulls, a minor league baseball team, where he mentors a talented but cocky rookie pitcher. Annie, a baseball groupie, is drawn to both men as much as she is to baseball. Ron Shelton's romantic comedy revolves around baseball. This is an odd but somehat likeable film that would not be greenlit these days. There's some snappy dialogue, palpable sexual tension, and a very goofy Tim Robbins performance. I prefer this to Costner's more celebrated baseball film, Field of Dreams.
