Scarlet Street

Director: Fritz Lang
Cast: Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennett, Dan Duryea, Margaret Lindsay, Jess Barker, Rosalind Ivan, Arthur Loft

Fritz’s Lang’s excellent, twisty film noir about a gullible amateur painter who is exploited by a beautiful femme fatale. She, however, doesn’t know the whole truth about him either. The story is a notch darker than Double Indemnity and Robinson’s character is a wonderful creation. In this genre of tough guys he plays a kindhearted, pussy-whipped husband who wears an apron at home. Adapted from Georges de La Fouchardière’s novel.
