This adaptation of Irvine Welsh's 1993 novel delves into the lives of a group of friends from Edinburgh, most of whom are heroin addicts. The focus is on Mark Renton, who attempts to kick his drug habit. Danny Boyle's best work is a brilliant, non-judgmental dark comedy about drug abuse, which moves seamlessly from hilarious set pieces to heartbreaking drama and back. This one-of-a-kind film is vividly directed and wonderfully acted, and its soundtrack became an instant classic. Followed by a 2017 sequel, T2 Trainspotting.
