John Klute, a small-town detective, travels to New York to investigate the disappearance of a businessman. His only lead is an obscene letter addressed to Bree Daniel, a high-priced call girl who begins receiving threatening calls. Alan J. Pakula's slow-burning thriller tells a romantically flavoured crime story that examines paranoia and exploitation. It's wonderfully shot by Gordon Willis and features a haunting score by Michael Small. Jane Fonda is terrific in her Academy Award-winning performance.
