In a dystopian future, genetics determine a person's social status and opportunities. Vincent Freeman assumes the identity of Jerome Morrow, a genetically superior man, and gains entry to the Gattaca Aerospace Corporation. Andrew Niccol's directorial debut is a thought-provoking and deliberately paced science fiction drama that examines eugenics. Ethan Hawke and Jude Law give impressive performances, and the futuristic production design is lovely. Niccol's screenplay is somewhat weighed down by an overly convoluted murder subplot that threatens to blow Vincent's cover.
