A man claiming to be from the future recruits a group of seemingly ordinary people in a diner for a desperate mission to prevent a rogue AI from destroying humanity. If things go south, he has the option to reset everything. After a nine-year hiatus, Gore Verbinski makes his return with this goofy science fiction comedy written by Matthew Robinson. The film is unusual, unpredictable, and relatively entertaining, but not particularly original. It includes scenes or characters that reminded me, at least in part, of Groundhog Day, The Fisher King, 12 Monkeys, Looper, A.I. – Artificial Intelligence, and Ready Player One. The story mirrors reality, and it's not exactly subtle about showing how people's lives have been transformed by their dependence on digital devices.
