In a future world ravaged by pollution and global warming, the desperate people in overpopulated cities depend on mass-produced food supplied by the Soylent Corporation. When the company's wealthy executive is murdered, NYPD detective Robert Thorn uncovers a disturbing conspiracy. Richard Fleischer's dystopian classic, loosely based on Harry Harrison’s 1966 novel Make Room! Make Room!, seems timelier today than it did in 1973. Its vision of 2022 looks believably grim, and the big twist, which most people probably know even if they haven't seen the movie, is great. Otherwise this is an extremely clunky, cheap-looking, and badly outdated science-fiction movie.
