During the American Civil War, a wounded Confederate deserter named Inman embarks on a long journey towards Cold Mountain to reunite with Ada, who struggles to make ends meet back at home. Anthony Minghella's epic, romantically flavoured war film is not The English Patient, but it is a solid and beautifully shot drama about love, sacrifice, and resilience. The episodic story suffers from some thin characterisation. Renee Zellweger won an Academy Award for her showy performance as the feisty and resourceful Ruby. Adapted from Charles Frazier's 1997 novel.
