In 1990, a divorced alcoholic furniture store owner discovers a hidden network of seemingly endless spaces in the basement of his shop. His obsession with the backrooms eventually pulls in his therapist. 20-year-old Kane Parsons makes an incredibly assured feature debut with this slow-paced and unsettling psychological horror film. Will Soodik's screenplay delivers an intriguing mystery that reveals enough to keep us hooked, but not so much that it ruins everything. The set design is amazing, and the two central performances by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve are very good. Based on the Parsons' YouTube series.
