Dorothy Gale, a young girl from Kansas, is swept away by a tornado into the magical land of Oz. She meets a Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion, and together they journey to see the Wizard, who they hope can grant their respective wishes. This iconic fantasy musical is entertaining and full of imagination, but also rather silly. Some of its songs have become enduring classics. The film is based on L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and the songs were written by Harold Arlen E. Y. "Yip" Harburg. An Academy Award winner for best score (Herbert Stothart) and best song (Over the Rainbow). Judy Garland earned a special Academy Juvenile Award for her breakthrough performance.
