This adaptation of Richard McGuire’s 2014 graphic novel chronicles the history of a single location in New Jersey from prehistoric times to the present day. Everything apart from the final shot is filmed from a fixed camera position, which mostly means the corner of the living room. Robert Zemeckis is a director who has never been afraid to innovate with new technologies and storytelling ideas. Sometimes it works (Who Framed Roger Rabbit?) and sometimes it doesn't (Polar Express). This failed experiment belongs in the second group. The film constantly moves back and forth in time, and I never felt fully immersed in the lives of these characters. The main focus is on the loves, losses, and unfulfilled dreams of three generation of the Young family, who occupy the house from 1945 to the 2000s.
