A tarnished tech billionaire invites Frida and a group of other people to his private island for an exclusive getaway. The five invited women enjoy days of gourmet food, champagne, and designer drugs, but Frida begins to feel that something is off. Zoë Kravitz's feature debut is a stylish and impressively directed thriller that wants to have the cake and eat it too. The film comes in the wake of #MeToo, and the script Kravitz co-wrote with E.T. Feigenbaum delivers a believably grim and unsettling story about control and abuse. However, it also wants to pander to the audience and deliver a revenge wish-fulfillment fantasy. Call me heartless, but I don't feel particularly sorry for this group of billionaire groupies. The script also has some structural problems: The plot takes ages to kick into gear, and then it's over too soon. The last scene is just terrible.
