Agnès Varda's film explores the last days and weeks of Mona, a defiant drifter who wanders through the French countryside during the winter. We see her story in flashbacks by people who encountered her. This grim social-realist drama reflects on society's perception of an outsider. Mona, who values freedom above anything else, is not always a particularly likeable protagonist. Sandrine Bonnaire gives a strong lead performance.
