In 2027, humanity faces extinction after nearly two decades without a child being born. As the country descends into chaos and anarchy, a disillusioned former activist is asked to transport a young pregnant refugee to safety. Alfonso Cuarón's gritty and original dystopian thriller, adapted from P. D. James’s 1992 novel, depicts a strikingly believable totalitarian Britain that controls the movement of its own population and confines refugees in detention camps. The film is enthralling, greatly assisted by Emmanuel Lubezki's stunning cinematography, which employs several long and complicated takes.
