When King Akeem of Zamunda discovers that he fathered a son during his trip to America in 1988, he sets out to groom the young man as his heir, much to the dismay of the King's eldest daughter. Coming to America was a likeable but modest hit comedy. I don't think even the fans of the original thought it needed a sequel, but here it is 33 years later, riding on the coattails of Black Panther. There is nothing on offer except nostalgia, and even that is filtered through 21st century gender politics. The film is unfunny and cheap-looking, and it features umpteen pointless cameos by famous black artists.
