A mysterious stone ring discovered in Egypt turns out to be a Stargate, which transports an archaeologist and a military team to a distant planet ruled by the god‑tyrant Ra. To return home, they must lead a rebellion and decode the Stargate in the other end. This science fiction film, written by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, has an intriguing premise. However, once the characters pass through the gate, the story gets stupider by the minute. The action scenes are extremely clunky and the special effects haven't aged well at all. Followed by a long running Stargate SG-1 TV show.
